The two bar charts illustrate the cost of air tickets for flights between Sydney and Melbourne (in both directions) for an airline, across the seven days of the week over two consecutive weeks in 2013.

Overall, ticket prices were generally highest on Fridays for both routes and both weeks, while midweek days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) had the lowest fares. In most cases, Week 2 prices were slightly lower or equivalent to Week 1 prices, with the most notable differences on Mondays.

For Sydney to Melbourne flights, Monday Week 1 was the most expensive ticket at $80, but this dropped by $30 to $50 in Week 2. Friday prices were similarly high, at $75 for both weeks, followed by Saturday at $70. Midweek tickets remained stable at $35-$40 across both weeks, with Sunday fares at $50.

On the Melbourne to Sydney route, Friday Week 1 was the dearest ticket overall at $80, falling to $60 in Week 2. Monday prices also fell from $60 to $40 across the two weeks. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday were the cheapest days, with constant prices of $35, while Saturday fares dropped from $60 to $50, and Sunday stayed at $50 for both weeks.
